Create technical partnerships, including joint research agreements, between Westmoreland, customers, companies and local universities Examples: WRAMC, ORNL, NREL, DOE, MIT, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Duquesne, PITT, ALCOA, Weyerhaeuser and several other public and private companies. Participate as both primary and secondary researcher for a variety of publicly and privately funded research projects. Refractory product development based on thermal requirements, chemical compatibility with process stream/environment, rheology needs, physical property requirements.

Global Reach
Established sales through partners and distributors in several important global markets. This includes a manufacturing and sales partner in China to supply the Asian markets, distributors in Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, England, Mexico. Contacts in many other areas of the globe.

Technical Publishing
Authored several technical papers regarding tissue scaffolding and aluminum processing. Invited speaker at related conferences. Wrote several dozen patents. Wrote several proposals for research funding from public and private entities.

Facilities Management
Established manufacturing facility for high tech. ceramics. Managed a building expansion and upgrade for a research center. Developed and managed a combined expense/capital budget. Managed the consolidation of research and development divisions of 3 companies during two separate mergers of companies.

Research Engineering
Integrated separate ceramic engineering departments into product type specific units. Develope and manage the annual research plan and consistently completed 80-85% of projects on time and on budget. 55% success rate in moving these projects from the laboratory to the plants to commercially viable products. Integrated other skill sets into the research effort including mineralogy, material science, chemistry and chemical and thermal engineering.

Testing and Analytical Services
Improved throughput and decreased backlog of Mineralogy, Chemistry, Physics, and Improved throughput and decreased backlog of Mineralogy, Chemistry, Physics, and Bulk Physical Properties Laboratories. Identify and design/build or purchase testing equipment. Knowledge of high temperature phase analysis technology, high throughput QA chemical analysis.
