WAM® 98 LC – Alumina Based Low Cement Castable

WAM® 98 LC is a very high temperature, low cement castable, comprised primarily of a pure tabular alumina aggregate. The alumina content, purity and lower cement levels in this product permit the material to be suitable for use up to 3,400oF. Tabular alumina is a very high temperature aggregate and differs from both mullite and bauxite. Tabular alumina has a very high melting point but is susceptible to creep which is a tendency to deform at high temperatures under load. As such it is typically not recommended for long term, high temperature use as a support structure. It is however utilized in high temperature chemically reactive conditions where it excels.

 

Westmoreland Advanced Materials, LLC low cement castable compositions incorporate the latest available technology in regards to particle size distribution, surfactants, and in-situ reactants that promote volume stability at temperature, density, non-reactivity, water demand, working time and placement characteristics. You will not find a superior product in the market place. It is available in several versions. The coarse version increases the material abrasion and impact resistance. Packages are made available for aluminum penetration resistance, and thermal shock resistance. A fine package is available for patching and intricate precast shapes. There is not an alkali resistant package for WAM® 98 LC.

 

WAM® 98 LC finds application in several areas as a very high temperature, thermal protection material also required to resist chemical reaction. It is commonly used in controlled atmosphere reaction furnaces, specifically in reducing atmospheres.
