WAM® 95 NC – Alumina Based No Cement Castable

WAM® 95 NC is a special purpose no cement containing castable.  It is composed primarily of tabular alumina aggregate. This allows the material to be suitable for use up to 3400oF. Because the material is basically calcium free it is suitable for high temperature and highly acidic environments. WAM® 95 NC is for heavy duty acid applications and chemically reactive environments.

 

These applications are where the primary attack is directly by an acidic material in an aqueous or vapor state. This involves hot face attack as well as subsequent condensation at the cold end of the refractory. This is also typically in contact with a steel shell so the use of a mastic should be considered.

 

WAM® 95 NC  is available in a fine version which is primarily used to make complicated precast shapes. There is also a thermal shock resistant version for use when the hot refractory is impacted by liquid waste streams containing sulfur. The sulfur decomposes and forms sulfuric acid which is very aggressive against calcium and magnesium. Because it is almost pure tabular it is also very resistant to chemical attack by a variety of chemical slags resulting from waste incineration.
