WAM® 90-33 LW – Standard Lightweight Castable

WAM® 90-33 LW is a lightweight castable with approximately a 90 pound per cubic foot density and a 3300oF maximum operating temperature limit. In general the lower the density the greater the insulating capability of the material.


Lightweight castables are primarily used as insulating backup linings. However, they can be used as working linings in non contact areas such as roofs. In some cases it is appropriate to use lightweights in contact areas but one should discuss the specific application with your technical sales representative to determine if appropriate for the specific product and the contact material.


WAM® 90-33 LW is a special lightweight composed primarily of bubble alumina. As such it has good insulating character combined with high temperature performance capability. In addition it develops significantly more strength compared to the other lightweights thus it can used in some structural support roles. Because the porosity is mostly closed it is appropriate to use this product in many contact applications. The product is composed primarily of alumina and it tends to be non-reactive to many chemicals, slags, and process streams. It finds common use in precast lids or cover shapes used to insulate aluminum pots, transfer ladles and similar vessels.
