WAM® 80 ULC – Ultra Low Cement Castable

WAM® 80 ULC is a high temperature, ultra-low cement containing castable.  It is comprised primarily of a 85%  bauxite aggregate system that does not contain mullite.  As a result of the bauxite content and the very low cement levels in this product, it is suitable for use up to 3200oF.


Bauxite based systems are not as resistant to chemical attack as their purer mullite containing relatives however, they have better abrasion and impact resistance and have higher hot strengths compared to its low cement counterpart.


Westmoreland Advanced Material LLC’s  ultra-low cement castable technology incorporates the latest available technology in regards to particle size distribution, surfactants, and in-situ reactants that promote volume stability at temperature, density, non-reactivity, water demand, working time and placement characteristics. You will not find a superior product in the market place.


Several versions of these ultra-low cement castables are available including a coarse mix that  increases the material’s resistance to both abrasion and impact. Also available are add on packages for aluminum penetration resistance, alkali resistance, and thermal shock resistance. A fine package is available for patching and  intricate precast shapes.


WAM® 80 ULC finds utilization in several areas as a high temperature, low reactivity thermal protection material. Furnaces, ladles, and other furniture  for iron and steel foundries and mills, kiln car decks, annealing furnaces and bases, soaking pits and ladle lip rings are typical applications. The AL version has been used in all aluminum processing and transport vessels. It has been used in a variety of rotary kiln and hearth furnace applications while the TSR version has been used to cast burner blocks.
