WAM® 80 EMT – Enhanced Matrix Technology

WAM® 80 EMT is a high temperature enhanced monolithic castable.  It has the properties of a low cement castable with the robustness of a standard cement castable. It is composed primarily of a bauxite containing aggregate. This allows the material to be suitable for use up to 2900oF.

 

Similar to standard cement castables, EMT castables are very forgiving and are less susceptible to temperature variations relative to set and working times and are very easy to place with typical vibration methods. However, like a low cement castable they require less water which results in better physical properties. In addition, unlike a standard cement castable, EMT castables can be pumped and shotcreted.

 

WAM® 80 EMT finds application in several areas as a high temperature, thermal protection material. This material is commonly used in areas that undergo increased amount of abrasion and impact. This includes lip rings, troughing, furnace doors and lintels, ladles, and other furniture  for iron and steel foundries and mills. It has been used in copper furnaces and a variety of rotary kiln areas and precast impact pads or similar shapes.
