WAM® 80 CG – Construction Grade Castable

WAM® 80 CG is a high temperature castable blending low cement and ultra low cement technology.  It is comprised primarily of a 80% alumina bauxite containing aggregate. The bauxite content and lower cement levels in this product permit the material to be suitable for use up to 3100oF. Bauxite is a high temperature aggregate but does not contain mullite. Bauxite has a larger amount of accessory oxides compared to the mullite aggregates. As such it is more susceptible to chemical reactions at elevated temperatures. However, bauxite is a naturally fused mineral which makes it very hard and thus abrasion and impact resistant. WAM®


Construction Grade castable technology incorporates the latest available technology in regards to particle size distribution, surfactants, and in-situ reactants that promote volume stability at temperature, density, non-reactivity, water demand, working time and placement characteristics. It is an economical choice to the premium grade products when trying to match desired product lifetime to an existing maintenance schedule. The coarse version increases the material abrasion and impact resistance. There is also additional add on packages.


WAM® 80 CG finds application in several areas as a high temperature, thermal protection material. This material is commonly used in areas that undergo increased amount of abrasion and impact. This includes Delta sections, furnaces, ladles, and other furniture  for iron and steel foundries and mills. It has been used in copper furnaces and a variety of rotary kiln areas and precast impact pads or similar shapes.
