WAM® 70 LC – Alumina Based Low Cement Castable

WAM® 70 LC is a high temperature, low cement, castable comprised primarily of a 70% alumina mullite containing aggregate. The amount of mullite contained in this aggregate is more than the lower alumina containing aggregate present in the WAM® 60 LC. As a result of the increased mullite content and lower cement levels in this product; the material to be suitable for use up to 3,100oF.


Westmoreland Advanced Materials, LLC low cement castable compositions incorporate the latest available technology in regards to particle size distribution, surfactants, and in-situ reactants that promote volume stability at temperature, density, non-reactivity, water demand, working time and placement characteristics. You will not find a superior product in the market place. It is available in several versions. The coarse version increases the material abrasion and impact resistance. Packages are made available for aluminum penetration resistance, alkali resistance, and thermal shock resistance. A fine package is also available for patching and  intricate precast shapes.


WAM® 70 LC finds application in several areas as a high temperature, low reactivity thermal protection material. This material is commonly used in areas that undergo increased chemical reactions with the melts or slags in which it comes in contact. This includes furnaces, ladles, and other furniture  for iron and steel foundries and mills. It has been used in copper furnaces and the AL version has been used in all aluminum processing and transport vessels.
