WAM® 65 NC – Alumina Based No Cement Castable

WAM® 65 NC is a general purpose no cement containing castable.  It is composed primarily of mullite aggregate. This allows the material to be suitable for use up to 3200oF. Because the material is basically calcium free it is suitable for high temperature acidic environments. WAM® 65 NC is for medium duty acid applications.


These applications are where the primary attack is formation of the acidic material and subsequent condensation at the cold end of the refractory. This is also typically in contact with a steel shell so the use of a mastic should be considered.


WAM® 65 NC  is available in a fine version which is primarily used to make complicated precast shapes. There is also a thermal shock resistant version for use when the hot refractory is impacted by liquid waste streams. Many of these types of waste streams contain high levels of organic chlorine or phosphorous which can form hydrochloric acid and phosphoric acid in the presence of water vapor.
