WAM® 60 SC – Standard Cement Castable

WAM® 60 SC is a general purpose standard cement containing castable.  It is composed primarily of a mullite containing aggregate. The use of mullite allows this castable to be suitable for use up to 2900oF. WAM® 60 SC is available in a coarse version which increases the material abrasion and impact resistance.


Standard cement castable systems contain a relatively high level of cement (Typically 15-20%) as such they permit a broad range of water without negatively affecting properties, are less susceptible to temperature variations relative to set and working times and are very easy to place with typical vibration methods. Cement contents of standard castables are typically relatively high, and thus are not suitable for very high temperature applications. Due to the presence of mullite in the aggregate WAM® 60 SC, it  has a higher maximum temperature limit  when compared to the flint clay based standard cement castable systems.


WAM® 60 SC finds application in several areas as a general thermal protection material. This includes floors around hot metal processing areas, catch dams and troughs used as safety barriers, ash hopper linings, and thermal resistant mechanical support structures in load bearing applications. It has also been used in crematoria and car decks for lower temperature annealing furnaces.
