WAM® 50 CG – Construction Grade Castable

WAM® 50 CG is a general purpose castable blending low cement and ultra low cement technology. It is comprised primarily of a 50% alumina mullite containing aggregate. The mullite aggregate and lower cement levels in this product allow the material to be suitable for use up to 3000oF. WAM®


Construction Grade castable technology incorporates the latest available technology in regards to particle size distribution, surfactants, and in-situ reactants that promote volume stability at temperature, density, non-reactivity, water demand, working time and placement characteristics. It is an economical choice to the premium grade products when trying to match desired product lifetime to an existing maintenance schedule. It is available in several versions. The coarse version increases the material abrasion and impact resistance. There is also add on packages for aluminum penetration resistance, alkali resistance, and thermal shock resistance. A fine package is available for patching and  intricate precast shapes.


WAM® 50 CG finds application in several areas as a high temperature, low reactivity thermal protection material. This includes ladles for iron and steel foundries, kiln car decks, annealing furnaces and bases, soaking pits, ladle lip rings, It has been used as an economical roofing material in aluminum furnaces and as a common backup material to brick in several application areas. It has also been used to make precast shapes for these applications as well.
